In Temple times, a special HOLY INCENSE containing FRANKINCENSE was burned on the Altar of Incense morning and evening. In Scripture, incense is often associated with prayer. Sweet-smelling smoke from incense represented the people's prayers ascending to God.
Just as the incense carried a perfumed odor, our prayers are scented with the righteousness of our High Priest, Messiah our Savior. In Revelation5:8, John tells us the prayers of the saints ascend to the altar in heaven before the throne of God as a sweet smelling savor.
