In ancient days, plants, trees and herbs were of extreme importance and value in every aspect of life. Their beneficial use for healing, for food, as well as for beauty is well documented. In the beautiful love song of the Bible, Song of Songs, pomegranates are mentioned 8 times, twice comparing the beauty and desirability of the bride to a lush garden. It is as the garden of Eden, "...where the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food," (Gen. 2:9). "My sister, my bride, is a garden locked up…an orchard that puts forth pomegranates and other precious fruits, henna and nard..." Song 4:12-13.
